Generation of ultra-high pressure and measurement of electrical resistance using toroidal-diamond anvil towards metallization of hydrogen
Abstract
The hydrogen is theoretically predicted to metallize under high pressure and exhibit superconductivity at room temperature[1]. But, the metallization pressure is considered to be high as 500 GPa, cannot be generated by using a typical design of diamond anvil cell (DAC). We applied the technique of the toroidal type high-pressure device[2] to DAC.
We optimized the culet design of the toroidal diamond anvils for generating higher pressure. We measured electrical resistance in Ca and tried to observe superconductivity by using toroidal-DAC.
