Cyclic π-conjugated macrocycles with unique guest recognition abilities based on its shape and electronic property have been paid great attentions because of its potential utility as a sensor. We previously reported the inclusion of tropylium cation in two-dimensional (2D) molecular networks formed by butadiyne-bridged macrocycles at the liquid–solid interfaces. In this presentation, I will talk about the guest recognition abilities of the butadiyne-bridged macrocycles, the formation of 2D molecular networks at the liquid–solid interfaces and its observation by using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and finally introduce my research project.
