π-Conjugated macrocycle showing unique guest recognition abilities thanks to its shape persistency and electronic property are a subject of keen interest owing to its potential utility as a sensor. My research project aims at the investigation of the guest recognition abilities of the butadiyne-bridged macrocycles which exhibit specific guest bindings to organic cations both in solution and at a liquid/solid interface. In this presentation, I will introduce a related work reported by Osteritz et al. about the guest recognition ability of a thiophene based hexagonal macrocycle at a solid surface and then details of my research project.
