Catalytic olefinations of carbonyl compounds were reported. One of them was chromium-catalyzed (E)-selective transformation of aldehydes to the corresponding vinyl halogen compounds using CHI3 as a coupling partner and metal as a reductant [1]. Herein, I examined whether this reaction proceeds also by using organosilicon compound as a reductant which gives only organic compounds as byproducts in order to improve this reactoin in terms of environmental harmony and , that is, to decrease wastes derived from metal salts [2].
Notably, the utility of organosilicon reductants enabled this reaction using CHBr3 as a substrate to proceed to give the desired product although it was not applicable for this reaction in case of using metal reducing reagents.
